ELA- We are working on our Unit 3 review. The Big Question for Unit Three discusses working together to form creative ideas. This fit nicely with our January theme of kindness. We will also be wrapping up our opinion writing focus, albeit temporarily.
Math- I have decided to hold off on an assessment for word problems for another couple of weeks. There are a handful of kiddos that are still struggling with dissecting a story problem and determining where to start. I am hoping that with the introduction of money and time, that I can incorporate these concepts into some "student friendly" word problems that will give those in need a bit more practice. That being said, we are pushing into Topic 8 which works with money and time. Second graders need to be able to tell time to the nearest 5 minute mark as well as know the monetary value of all coins and bills. If you get a chance to show your child the various coins, that would be very helpful.
Valentine's Day- Please have your child create a Valentine's Day box at home to bring on the 14th. I will be sending home a class list later this week. If your child needs construction paper to make a bag/box, please let me know and I will send some home with them.
Home-School Talking Points-
1. Ask about our orchestra assembly on Friday.
2. One of our sweet students had their last day on Friday. Who was it?
3. What is our 28 day kindness challenge. What book did we read about kindness? What were some of the values it discussed? (A random act of kindness should be random, not announced beforehand, the giver should not expect anything in return, and it should feel good).
4. The November class video is in Google Classroom.
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
