Wow, what a first week! I have really enjoyed getting to know each of your children. I know this is going to be a fabulous year. :-)
ELA- On Monday, August 29th, I will be sending home a stapled Reading Street packet. Some of the pages will already be completed. This is what the weekly language arts homework packet will look like. There will be 2 short pages of Reading Street homework assigned each night. This should only take your child 5-10 minutes to complete. They do not need to do the entire packet in one evening. Please help them to remember to put this back in their planner and return it to school each day. We will be testing on Because of Winn Dixie on Wednesday. Please remember that this will be a teacher guided testing session. The following week, the students will have the opportunity to complete the tests independently.
Math- We will begin working in our brand new math books this week. I am excited to see how this new, full color, consumable math book will engage the students. Each night there will be a homework assignment for your child to complete. With the new textbook, I will be monitoring how long it takes to complete the homework and will adjust accordingly. This may take me a few days to get a feel for the time involved, but in the mean time, if it is taking too much time or is causing too much of a conflict at home, feel free to adjust for your child's needs.
Other- Our Curriculum Night (Back to School Night is this Wednesday). Please refer to your student's planner for more information. I will be going over classroom information at that time. I have set a goal for 100% attendance! Please let me know if you will not be able to attend. Last Friday we had a fun STEM based project. The students made a Pokeball Hovercraft. Most students took their project home. Hopefully they shared this with you! Please remember to sign or initial your child's planner each evening as well as indicate how many minutes of reading they completed.
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
