ELA- We have started our second week in Reading Street. RS 3.1.2 What About Me? will be assessed this Wednesday, September 1st. Family Times packets should be going back and forth each day. You will find the spelling words, vocabulary terms for the week, grammar skill focus, and comprehension strategy listed on the first 2 pages. One page is assigned each evening for homework. We will review and correct the page the following day in class, discussing the questions as we go.
Math- Topic 1 concluded last week and was assessed on Friday. We will begin Topic 2 on Monday. The first 5 Topics in our enVision textbooks are multiplication focused. We will go over several different strategies that do set the stage for a deeper understanding and lay the foundation for more challenging long multiplication equations. When it is all said and done, rote memorization remains my top go to when parents ask how to help their child with the basic fact acquisition.
Other- The third grade team has discussed a concern at recess surrounding fidget toys. We have decided that students may take one fidget outside to our grade level recess only. We are asking for your support in not allowing students to share the fidgets with other children. On a couple of occasions, this has caused problems at recess. We are also concerned with the spread of germs and COVID19. I have also noticed that during class, there are a few students bringing fidgets to school and they are being used as a toy and not a tool. If you feel that your child needs a fidget, please let me know and we can work out a plan to minimize the distraction during learning as well as to other students.
Home-School Talking Points-
1. How did our first Grade Level Morning Meeting go? What game did we play?
2. What is Friendship Friday?
3. We had a special guest join our class on Friday. Who is Ms. Piggle Wiggle?
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
