ELA- Unit 3 in Reading Street begins with How Do You Raise a Raisin? With the Thanksgiving Break coming up this week, I asked the class if they wanted to take the OPM on Tuesday, or wait until Monday, December 2nd. They opted to wait until Monday. This will give us an extra day on Tuesday, December 3rd to work more intensely on writing and may a close reading assignment.
Math- Topic 7 on graphing data using picture graphs and bar graphs was short and sweet. The review will be on Monday and we will assess those concepts on Tuesday. I collected data from the class and will have students create a picture graph and bar graph with that information. This will give students a chance to work on Math Skills, starting tomorrow thru the break. Every student has a math packet with an addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or (one student) fraction concept. Some students have misplaced their packet and I replace them as soon as I am made aware of the MIA skills sheets.
Other-
1. The Thanksgiving Holiday will be from Wednesday-Friday. School will be let our at the regular time of 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
2. The weather looks a bit chilly and snowy for the next week. Please send your child with the appropriate outerwear. Students are expected to wait outside in the morning until brought in by their teacher. Students also go outside for recess unless it is an inside day. Utah gets cold. It snows in Utah. Snow is wet. Students have been warned. ;-)
Home-School Talking Points-
1. Which students won the Type-Off? (Two were from our class.)
2. What are we planning on doing on Monday for our attendance incentive? How does our grade level attendance incentive work? (Gold Star (5 points) for 100% attendance and no tardies. Silver Star (3 points) for 1 student absent/tardy. Bronze Star (1 point) for 2 students absent or tardy. 0 points for 3+ students absent or tardy. Is your child helping the grade earn an incentive?
3. What is your student's favorite Playworks game?
Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break (beginning Wednesday),
Ms. Stroud
