It is so nice to reach the end of 2020!
ELA- Over the next two weeks, please have your read, read, read. Our Acadience testing for reading fluency and accuracy will be January 11th.
To be on grade level, students should be able to read 86 words per minute, with no more than 3 errors, and be able to retell 26 or more words about what they read.
It is so interesting to see what not reading for 2 weeks can do to these scores. All Acadience data is reported to the District as well as to the State and is an important component for me to use in determining which students are performing at, above, or below a third-grade level. Students struggling with fluency or accuracy should also be reading out loud to a sibling, adult, pet, or stuffed animal. I have entered a Reading Log into Canvas, please have your student complete this over the break. Lexia will also be available for students to use over the break. At this point in the year, students should be on Level 14 in order to complete the 3rd grade skills.
Math- This is a great time to have your kiddo work on their multiplication and division fluency. We still have a handful of students that are struggling with fluency as well as accuracy. Please use the Ascend Math site or flashcards to help you child cement these facts into memory. The goal is for students to be able to correctly answer 90 problems in 5 minutes or less. We have several students that are already there! Is your child one of them?
Friday Online Learning- Please see the Learning Module in Canvas for today's learning assignments. There is one change in the Math Madness Word Problem Activity. I would like the word problems on one document and the solutions in a second one. This will make it much easier to convert them to QR Codes for students to self check their answers. Thank you for being patient with this change.
Other- Our class video singing "COVID the Rotten Virus" is in Canvas. check it out. It is so cute!
Wishing you a happy holiday break,
Ms. Stroud
