ELA- We are getting into more of a rhythm with our two new ELA curriculums. I am really enjoying and often looking forward to the 95% Group skills and concepts taught each day. This block of time is limited and very structured. The first 5 weeks are a review of the skills taught in second grade, except that this is our first year implementing the program. Even without the background, the class has adapted quite well to the routines and procedures set up in the program. The biggest complaint I hear from students is that we (I) am going too fast. The program has specific time constraints with "If you don't finish in the allocated time, skip the rest of the question set and move on." I'm doing my best to balance delivering the curriculum and managing time of our young third graders. Still working through the Wonders pacing and curriculum. One significant difference in Wonders from Reading Street is that the text sets are two weeks in length, vs one week. It may take a couple of weeks for us to truly establish our pacing. Challenge accepted!
Math- Students took the Topic 1 OPM (opportunity to prove mastery) assessment yesterday in class. I will review the scores next week when I return and discuss/review as necessary. Topic 2 begins with the understanding and learning of multiplication facts.
Home-School Talking Points-
1. How did the Acadience Reading Assessment go? It was taken on Thursday in the library.
2. What are recess races? Are they required? (No.)
3. How did the fire drill go? East Sandy completed our monthly emergency drill practice on Wednesday. How is your child supposed to line up once we are outside? (Number order, single file line, facing the school).
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
