ELA- We will complete Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest next Wednesday, then begin Rocks in his Head, which will be assessed on February 12. We completed all of our Winter Benchmark testing for reading and math last week. I was pleased with the amount of growth our students have made. There are still some students that are not reading fluently. BAGGIE BOOKS HELP. The students that continue to struggle in reading typically are those that do not read their baggie books. Reading books, on their level, will help with fluency (promise :-)).
Math- The class will be assessing the skills in Topic 10 on Monday. We will then move onto Topic 11 which spends 4 days on multi-step word problems. I will be moving all students to Multiplication and Division in Reflex Math on Monday. I have discussed this with the class and they are aware the the time has come for everyone to work on those basic facts. I will also have a treat for students that have competed all of the addition and subtraction Math Skills by the end of February.
Home-School Talking Points-
1. We played the game of Charades this week for Morning Meeting. What were some of the school related activities students acted out?
2. How did we do with the Math CAP and COMP? (Our class ROCKED it!!!)
3. How was the assembly on Friday morning? What was it about? (Orchestra assembly)
Book Talk Assignment-
Your child should have brought home their Book Talk Assignment last week. Students should describe the steps necessary to create something (baking, making, drawing, etc.) The paper that went home has 4 steps listed. If your child wants to have more than 4 steps, they can add them to the back side. Please take pictures of each of the steps, or have your kiddo neatly draw and color an image to go along with each step. We are reviewing the skill of sequencing and using complete sentences along with incorporating the use of technology and Google Slides. Slide shows will be presented to the class at the end of February.
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
