ELA- We will be testing Letters Home From Yosemite this week for our language arts. This is a heavy week for prefixes and suffixes, but hopefully give the students a better understanding of how word parts can change the meaning of a base word.
Math- We are diving right into long multiplication. I spent some time last Thursday explaining that there will be 5 different methods of multiplication I will be presenting to the class. I have asked them to become proficient in two of them. My two favorites are the traditional method (old school) and the box/square method (area model). I have quickly become a fan of the area model, but often resort to the traditional method. Please be patient with your kiddo as they learn a new method of multiplying, it really does help explain what is going on and begin to introduce the concept of algebra to them.
Other- SEP Conferences are this Wednesday and Thursday evening. If you have a conflict with your selected time, please call the front office to reschedule. There will be NO SCHOOL this Friday. Thursday will be an EARLY OUT day, dismissing at 1:10. This Thursday we will also have our first Grandparents Day during lunch. Please let me or the office know if your child will have an adult eating a school lunch with them NLT today.
See you at Conferences,
Ms. Stroud
