We made it through our first week and it was FANTASTIC! I am head over heals for this group of kiddos and am looking forward to watching them learn and grow this year.
ELA- We have started both our Wonders and 95% curriculum. Students are remembering some of the procedures from 2nd grade and that is helping move us along.
Math- On Thursday, we began our enVision math curriculum. Each day we discuss a new or expanding math concept. As a whole group in class, we complete the Solve and Share, Look Back, Visual Learning, and Convince Me sections on the first page. One the second page we complete the Do You Understand and Do You Know sections entirely. For the Independent Practice and Problem Solving sections, we complete the odd numbered questions whole group. I send home the even numbered problem for students to complete at home. This gives the kiddos a chance to work the equations independently without a friend or myself helping guide the process. Typically there are 4-5 questions for students to complete. We will do those in class whole group the next day. I've found a high level of student success following this routine. We are able to do a deep dive into the lesson on day 1, then a refresher mini lesson on day 2, giving exposure to the concept 24 hours apart. The reward for math homework completion is a stamp and sometimes a Skittle, brag tag, or even just a thumbs up.
Planners- Today in our Friday grade level Morning Meeting, we discussed our first grade level goal: getting planners signed. Please sign your child's planner each evening. All this indicates is that you are aware of homework and upcoming events. If you child reads for 20+ minutes, they will get an additional stamp. Please write how many minutes your child reads each evening next to your initials/signature at the bottom of the page.
Thank you to all of the families that have been able to donate items to our classroom. I really appreciate your generosity!
Water Bottles- As a quick reminder, please send a self sealing water bottle to school with your child each day.
FREE Sandy City upcoming activities- The Crystal Festival at the Mountain America Expo Center on Saturday and Sunday.
FREE Sandy City upcoming activities- Healthy Sandy Food Truck Night Monday evening. The Splash pad is still open for a couple of more weeks and there will be booths on healthy living.
Enjoy your weekend,
Ms. Stroud
