ELA- This week's story is RS 3.5.3 Good-Bye, 382 Shin Dang Dong. The skills and concepts being taught in class can be found in the Family Times packet. As a quick reminder, the Spring Acadience (reading fluency tests) will be given in about 5-6 weeks. By the end of 3rd grade, students should be reading 100 correct words in a 1- minute time with no more than 2-3 mistakes. Students should also be able to retell the main events of the passage with details that are in order. I have included a timed practice on the back of each packet that we use each day. This should give you an idea of the text complexity expected of your child.
Famous Person Book Reports- Thanks to COVID, our annual Wax Museum will look different this year. Students should select a biography to have read by Monday, April 12. The class was directed to biography books today in library. Many students did not find a book they were interested in or one on their level. At this point in the school year, third grade students should be able to fraction read chapter books. A great biography series is the Who Was/Who Is series. Picture books will not be approved for the majority of students. All students will need to bring a book to school to be approved. More information will be sent home on Monday (bright yellow paper).
Math- Where has the year gone? We have been pushing hard in math and will need to continue to keep pace in order to finish the curriculum by RISE testing. We will complete Topic 13 on fractions this Monday. The OPM will be Tuesday, March 30. We reached a point today where students that were not fluent with their multiplication and division math facts struggled significantly. Please encourage your child to work on their facts daily if they are not passing their weekly drills.
Home-School Talking Points-
1. The class started static electricity in science with Mrs. Rivero. What is one thing they learned from her?
2. What was one of our cursive Wacky Facts for this week?
3. We started our Second Steps Bullying Prevention lessons this week. What is the first "R" we discussed?
Other-
Please make sure your kiddo has a spare mask in their backpacks. Several students have arrived to school (not so many 3rd graders) without a mask. Masks are still required here at school and on school grounds.
Silly Sally- Silly Sally likes baggies but not bags. Silly Sally likes cartwheels but not gymnastics. What does Silly Sally like?
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
