ELA- When we return on Tuesday, January 3rd, we will begin with our Reading Street story How Night Came From the Sea. This will continue our unit theme of patterns in nature. We will test on Thursday/Friday. This is a change in our normal pattern of testing. I will do a mid-year guided comprehension test to minimize the stress with a short learning opportunity and to hopefully give some more insight on test taking strategies. I hope your children have all enjoyed the book they selected before the break. Please encourage them to continue reading each day.
Math- The grade level team has decided that we will be taking the first couple of days of 2017 (wow) to review all of the concepts from the first part of the school year, hence the review packet that went home the Friday before the break. Each class will be competing for bragging rights as to how many correct questions will be answered during that review period. Our next strand will focus on fractions. Fun, fun, fun!
Science- The class will be rotating to Mrs. Broadhead's room beginning on the 10th for the unit on weather and the water cycle. I would like to asemble the water cycle models next week. This is a visual representation of the water cycle that really solidifies the concept. EAch student will need to bring in their water bottles. I have only had a handful of students bring them in. Make and Take lessons are so much more fun than Watch and Learn. If your child would like to have their own project, please send water bottles to school with them by Wednesday.
Other- I will be working with the class on creating an academic New Year's Resolution Goal. If there is something specific you would like for your child to focus on, please "guide" them to this goal idea. The goal should be a SMART goal (Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Bound).
Wishing you and your children a Happy and Safe New Year,
Ms. Stroud
