ELA- Our Week 3/4 Wonders unit of study story is Clever Jack Takes the Cake. The skills and concepts in this unit of study will be assessed next week, the week before Spring Break.
Biography/Wax Museum- Several students have not found a famous person biography book to read and complete a project on. Students did have an opportunity last Thursday to select a book from our school library. They will have 2 more opportunities before Spring Break to find a book in our library. On Thursday, March 28th, students will be assigned one of our grade level books if they have yet to select one. The Sandy Library, Tyler Library, or Whitmore Library are all fairly close and have an excellent selection. Please keep in mind that books need to be approved to ensure they are an appropriate reading level as well as to make sure we don't have duplicate famous people.
Math- The review for Topic 14 will happen tomorrow, followed by the assessment on Tuesday. Our Measurement Monday will be pushed back one day until Tuesday. I had forgotten that all three of the third-grade teachers will be at a district required training tomorrow. We will begin Topic 15 on Wednesday. Topic 15 is on shapes and culminates with a fun project.
Other- Fundraiser packets went home on Friday. Please take a peek for them in your child's planner. Looks like some fun prizes for specific goals! Our PTA does so much with the money collected, including allocating for field trips.
Other- Speaking of field trips.. We have planned 2 field trips. A note went home on Friday that explains both of them. There is one correction that should have been made by your kiddo. We need the lunch count by Tuesday, March 28th instead of the 30th. The lunch manager needs to place the order on Tuesday, March 28th. We are looking for parent volunteers for both field trips. If you are able to help, please indicate that on the permission slip. Both field trips are super fun. I was pleasantly surprised last year when parents as well as students both indicated that they enjoyed and learned more from the Landfill and Sandy City Hall field trip!
Other- I am attending a conference in Washington, D.C. this Friday-Wednesday. My flight leaves Wednesday morning and I am planning on coming into school for the second half of the day. We have so much to get done before Spring Break that I would like to be with the class, even if it means dealing with jet lag. And let's face it, I know I will miss them. Who knows, maybe I can even score some swag from our State Senators and Congressmen to bring back to the class! I will have my phone with me and will be available through text, if you have any questions.
Silly Sally- Silly Sally likes parallelograms but not squares. Silly Sally likes sheets but not blankets. What does Silly Sally like?
Home-School Talking Points-
1. The class decided to challenge themselves. If we reach 1,000 points before Ms. Kelsey's class reaches 750 points on our grade level homework challenge, we will earn a crystal making project. How close are we?
2. We played a new game during our Friday Grade Level Morning Meeting. What is Going Camping?
3. In preparation for our Sandy City field trip, what is hanging in our classroom?
Grateful that Daylight Savings Time Change Was Last Weekend,
Ms. Stroud
