ELA- We will be finishing Seeing Stars this Wednesday. I will be giving an OPM on these concepts. We will pick up in January with A Symphony of Whales. It seems to have worked out nicely this year, ending a weekly lesson study on a Wednesday, then picking one up mid-week as well. We will continue with informative writing in January too Please remember to have your kiddos read, bacon read, READ over the break. It's not just something teachers say, we really can see a difference with those students that don't read consistently over the break.
Math- We are taking our OPM tomorrow on Topic 7 which teaches data collection, bar charts, and pictographs. We will begin Topic 8 in January. We have about 75% of our students that have achieved 100% fluency in addition and subtraction in Reflex Math and about half of those have achieved 100% fluency in multiplication and division in Reflex Math. WOW!!! SUPER WOW!!!!! All students will be advanced to multiplication and division in January, regardless if they have mastered addition and subtraction. This was a grade level decision so please encourage your child to work hard over the break on Reflex, if they have not earned their certificate for addition and subtraction. I want every student to have the opportunity to "graduate" up to multiplication and division.
Other- School will not be in session from Thursday, December 20, 2018 thru January, 1, 2019. School will resume on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. On Wednesday, December 19th, East Sandy will have our annual Sing Around. This is a gift from the students to each other and the administration has asked that parents not attend due to room constraints. The third grade will be singing Deck the Halls and O Christmas Tree. For the song Deck the Halls, students will be using the zipper on their jackets to "sing" the Fa La La La La La La La La parts. Please help your child find an appropriate coat, hoodie, or jacket with a functioning zipper to use on Wednesday. Students may also wear a festive hat, if they would like.
*Remember that DreamBox, Lexia, Reflex Math, and Prodigy will all be available over the break for your child to work on. :-)

Home-School Talking Points-
1. Coach Josh visited our classroom on Wednesday. What did we do? (Learned 3 new "brain break" games.)
2. We had an inside recess this last week. Which classroom did you child go to and what did they do? (Johnson- Go Noodle, Russell- Puzzles, Stroud- Reading, drawing, writing)
3. We worked on Talking Books. What is a "talking book"?
Silly Sally-
Silly Sally likes deer but not elk. Silly Sally likes spelling but not writing. Silly Sally likes sleeping but not resting. What does Silly Sally like?
Have a wonderful winter break,
Ms. Stroud
