ELA- We are busy reviewing all of the concepts of Unit 5 in our Reading Street Curriculum. The Unit 5 OPM will occur this Wednesday, then we will move to Unit 6. We will not complete all six "weeks" in Unit 6, due to the END of the YEAR! I will be reviewing the concepts and determining how best to combine the skills over the next couple of days. We will begin with the first week in Unit 6, which is The Story of the Statue of Liberty.
Math- We started Topic 14 on Friday. It covers several standards, including time, elapsed time, word problems, and metric units of volume and mass (weight).
Other-
1. Our Spirit Week has been rescheduled. More information on that will come at a later date.
2. The Mustang Stampede is this Friday! Please send your child in running/walking attire on Friday. Also, please discuss with your kiddo the 1 mile vs. 2 mile course. They should know ahead of time which race they will be participating in. Only the fastest 3 third grade boys and fastest 3 third grade girls running the 2 mile race will be awarded a medal.
3. The DIBELS reading fluency tests will be administered to students next Monday. Please encourage your child to read out loud each evening to prepare for this final test. Third grade students should be reading 100 words/minute with a 97% accuracy (no more than 3 incorrect words if reading 100 words per minute. Students should also be able to retell at least 30 words from the story they read, capturing the main idea, facts and details, and sequence of events. They are asked to do this 3 times, then the mean is taken of those three opportunities.
Home School Talking Points-
1. Who won our Grade Level Type-Off challenge?
2. How is cursive going? What is a Cursive Permit?
3. What happened on Friday at lunch that was different?
Silly Sally-
Silly Sally likes smoothies but not fruit drinks. Silly Sally likes jogging but not walking fast. Silly Sally likes books but not stories. What does Silly Sally like?
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
