ELA- We are wrapping up Unit 3, and will be moving on to Unit 4 this week. The first story is The Man Who Invented Basketball. Unit 4 signifies we are half of the way through the Reading Street curriculum. Wahoo! If you child has not already brought in their How-To book report/project, please help them to finish this ASAP. We have been discussing this in class for the past few Psyduck weeks and the kiddos should have a solid understanding of what needs to be done. Our school ed tech will be coming in this week to help the class get their Google Slides presentation going.
Math- We have started Topic 9, addition and subtraction up to 1,000. Please be patient with the sequence of how the curriculum is taught. In order to build a solid understanding of why regrouping is occurring, the curriculum stresses what each digit represents in a number and how it will be used. Teaching a variety of strategies is important for students to know, before jumping into the traditional algorithm.
Home-School Talking Points-
1. We had our winter benchmark reading testing on Friday. How does your child feel they did? (Scores will be discussed at Conferences in February.)
2. How is our attendance race going? Which class is in first place? (Mrs. Johnson's class is in the lead.)
3. How many logic puzzles has your child completed? Does he/she enjoy doing them?
4. Easter Egg hint- Pokemon.
Silly Sally-
Silly Sally likes the cool weather but not the cold weather. Silly Sally likes to sleep but not nap. Silly Sally likes books but not reading. What does Silly Sally like?
Thank you for your support,
Ms. Stroud
