ELA- We will continue with the Reading Street story Anansi Goes Fishing, then move on to Rosa and Blanca on Thursday. I had several students turn in their weekly Family Times homework packet before the break, but if your child still needs to work on it, please encourage them to do so. It would be a great review of the skills we worked on before the holiday vacation. Our writing focus will be creating a strong opinion paragraph. How is the reading going? I hope your kids have been enjoying a great new book!
Math- We will review Topic 5 on addition and subtraction strategies (0-100) on Tuesday and then test on Wednesday. We finished Topic 5 a couple of days before school let out, but I decided to wait to assess the class until we returned. It was quite the chaotic and energy filled Monday and Tuesday!!! I had almost forgotten how much fun it is to be 7. ;-)
Other- As I was reviewing our school feedback survey information, completed by East Sandy parents, it spurred some thoughts. I would like to incorporate a focus on character education, so I set a goal to work on character traits with our students. I would like to have a monthly character trait focus for our class and have selected kindness for January. I will be discussing this during our Morning Meeting's the first week back, as well as throughout the month.
Speaking and Listening- I will be giving the students an opportunity to talk about their vacation. Students will be able to choose ONE of the following topics and speak for no more than 3 minutes.
1. A gift they received.
2. Someplace they went or something they did.
3. Someone they saw/played with.
I will be using this as a speaking and listening grade. I will discuss this further with the class next week, but if you would like to give your child an idea or two, that would be fantastic.
Home School Talking Points-
1. What is the school-wide reading competition we discussed on Tuesday, December 19th? (Marshmallow Hot Chocolate Mug)
2. Where did the gingerbread rascal go? (Class activity lead by our DELIGHTFUL room parents and volunteers.)
Looking forward to seeing your children next year (in 2018),
Ms. Stroud
