ELA- Smoke Jumpers reading unit will be tested this Wednesday along with the district required writing informative assessment. We are working hard in class on writing and I am so impressed with the skills the class is showing! I will continue to conference with each student to give them specific feedback on their writing skills and areas where I see strengths as well as areas they can modify to improve their skills.
Math- Topic 11 on line plots will conclude tomorrow and we will have our OPM on Tuesday/Wednesday. Topic 13 will begin with measurement, both customary and metric. I will begin this after Spring Break. Students will work on preparing their journals and reviewing previous concepts this Thursday and Friday.
Blue Ribbon Week- Our third "Ribbon Week" discusses bullying. A flyer went home with your child last Friday with this week's highlights. I look forward to seeing a sea of blue tomorrow in class!
Other- I will be out of the building this Thursday and Friday. Mrs. Sealund will be my substitute. She has subbed for Mrs. Dahlgren and Mrs. Broadhead this year, as well as one time for me. I will be back in class the Monday we return from Spring Break.
Other- The wind up for the end of the year has begun! Over the past two weeks I have started the yearly review process with the class. I will be spiraling back through the curriculum, touching on the 4th grade concepts that your child has worked on this year. Although Spring Break symbolizes that the end of the school year is approaching, we will continue to work hard until the very end of the year. Sometimes this can be a bit stressful for students, with the reminder that SAGE testing is coming up. Each child has been taught the material necessary to be successful on the end of level tests. I will be discussing ways to relax and refocus during class. Playing outside, getting that necessary Vitamin D from the sunlight, and getting a good night's sleep are important. If you find your kiddo stressing too much, please let me know. As much as I want children to learn the curriculum, I realize that one of the most important aspects is creating a love of learning. Your child has a lifetime of learning ahead of them and the last thing I want to do is make learning a negative event. :-)
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
