ELA- We (will be) working on A Symphony of Whales. This week seemed to speed on by and I was not able to begin A Symphony of Whales in a timely manor. I will not be assessing the skills, but instead use Wednesday to teach and review as necessary. The class was assigned an oral presentation assignment that will be due when we return "next year". Students will present on ONE of three possible topics. They may choose from: One thing they did, one thing they received, or one person they saw. I have really stressed that they may only select one option. This is really fun for kids and nearly all of the students select something they did or someone they saw.
Math- We will begin Topic 9 when we return in January. Topic 9 continues with addition and subtraction within 1,000. I am reinforcing to the class that once students can identify the pattern in the algorithm, they can do really BIG numbers.
Science- Our weather unit has concluded. During the second week of January, we will begin our next set of rotations. I will be teaching about magnetism, Mrs. Johnson will discuss gravity, and Mrs. Rivero will instruct the students on electricity.
Reminders for over the break:
All computer programs will be available for students for students to use over the break. This includes: Reflex Math, Lexia, Dream Box, and Prodigy. Students may also work on their Talking Book Word Problems, through Google Classroom. Please encourage your child to read, read, read. :-)
Home-School Talking Points-
1. Dr. Wilkinson read to our class this week. What was the book about?
2. How did our Holiday Sing Around go? What was your child's favorite song?
3. How was our Class Party? Did your kiddo enjoy the Candy Cane Coding, Gum Drop Engineering, or Creative Magnet art? I hope so! They looked so fun!!!
Other-
I will have a half day afternoon substitute on Monday, January 6th. At noon, I will take the Oath of Office for Sandy City Council. Your student should have brought home an "invitation" to this excused civic learning opportunity. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday season,
Ms. Stroud
