I hope your Thanksgiving was relaxing and filled with love. Things may be different, but the joy we have doesn't need to be lost due to distance. :-)
ELA- Last week, we started RS 3.3.1 How Do You Raise a Raisin?. We will continue with that unit this week and take the OPM on Wednesday. Please remember to have your child read at least 20 minutes each evening, which can include their baggie book. Please indicate how many minutes s/he reads each evening in their planner next to your signature/initials for the evening.
Math- We will begin Topic 7 on Monday, learning about graphs. This is a fun topic that the students really enjoy. Although we have completed all topics on multiplication, this needs to remain a priority at home. Each year I have parents ask how they can best help their child in math- this is how. If your child is struggling with their basic facts at this point, they need your intervention at home. If you don't know if they are struggling or not, please ask me, or have them take the online practice tests that are included in the online Friday Learning Modules each week. I cannot stress this enough. By the end of the cookie year, 3rd grade students should be able to fluently and accurately multiply and divide their basic facts. At this point, with all of the practice we have had at school, I am measuring success to be 60/100 facts completed with accuracy in 5 minutes. As a prior 4th and 5th grade teacher, the students that struggled in math were those that were unable to quickly and accurately solve these facts.
Molly's Pilgrim- Last week, we read the book Molly's Pilgrim. This is a tradition for our 3rd grade. Please look for the card-stock "paper doll" and instructions to complete this task. Duplicate instructions can be found in Canvas, along with the questions that need to be answered by December 7th.
Home-School Talking Points-
1. What is Molly's Pilgrim?
2. How was our special Zoom meeting with the Sandy Fire Department? What was discussed? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFH11JSWv-k
3. We have a slight change in how we walk outside for recess. How has the route changed?
Silly Sally- Silly sally likes broccoli but not spinach. Silly Sally likes pudding but not pie. What does Silly Sally like?
Easter Egg- remember to look for the special word and write it in your kiddo's planner.
Thank you,
Ms. Stroud
